  • Jurors heard testimony from survivors who lost limbs
  • Defense to begin its case to spare Dzhokhar Tsarnaev the death penalty

Prosecutors have rested their case against Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev with gruesome autopsy photos of the people who died in the 2013 terror attack.

Tsarnaev’s lawyer said in opening statements that Tsarnaev participated in the bombings but that his older brother, Tamerlan, was the mastermind.

Tsarnaev’s lawyers will get a chance to present their case. The defense has made it clear that its strategy during the two-phase trial is not to win an acquittal but to save him from the death penalty.

Three people were killed and more than 260 were injured when two bombs exploded near the finish line 15 April 2013.

Jurors heard heart-wrenching testimony from survivors who lost limbs in the bombings and from the father of 8-year-old Martin Richard, the youngest bombing victim.
